An Analysis of Scottish Borrowers' Registers
There are four registers from the Orkney Library that cover the period 1817-32, and four more covering the period 1830-1868, thus falling outside our period. We have thus far transcribed the first register, 1816-1817 and a proportion of the 1817-1820 register. All registers have been digitised and can be viewed. Some entries on this list have been crossed off or dated when the borrower received the book. As no borrowing register exists for the period 1824-1830, entries for these years have been inputted to recover some of the borrowings. Entries with no cross or date have been excluded from statistics. Between pages 17 and 25, a cross demarks that the borrower received the book. The 'borrowed date' associated with these borrowings are generalisations based on the date the borrower requested the book.
